Prof. Ernst Wagner is Chair of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Department of Pharmacy and Center of Nanoscience at LMU Munich since 2001. After PhD in chemistry (1985, TU Vienna) he was postdoc at ETH Zurich (1985-1987), working on origin-of-life chemistry of nucleic acids, Group Leader at IMP Vienna (1988-1995) exploring receptor-mediated gene delivery and artificial virus-like gene transfer systems, translating gene transfer at Boehringer Ingelheim Austria as Director Cancer Vaccines (1992-2001) into production of gene-modified cancer vaccines (world-wide first polymer-based gene therapy trial in 1994). In 1996 he was also Professor for Biopharmaceutical Sciences, Utrecht University. Ernst is Academician of European Academy of Sciences, member of College of Fellows of Controlled Release Society (CRS), Honorary Professor at Sichuan University, Board Member of German Society for Gene Therapy, Member of Nonviral Therapeutic Delivery Committee, America Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (ASGCT). He authored 521 publications, 53 779 citations, h-index 115 (GS).
